In addition to four months residential camp, a number of short duration training programmes are organized in Doosra Dashak
- Follow-up of four months residential camps: During four months residential camps, Doosra Dashak’s emphasis is to make participants learn and internalize the concepts rather than on course completion. Therefore some curriculum items inevitably remain uncovered. To the extent of the availability of resources, Project Directors try to organize follow-up camps to cover the remaining curriculum.
- Issue based /Need based Training: Whenever a special activity is taken up in a block, Doosra Dashak personnel as well as the participants are provided special trainings. Focus issues are selected based on the needs identified for the particular block. These issues can be NREGA, Social Audit, RTI, PRI, Gender, Health and Reproductive Health/Maternal Health, etc.
- Life-Skills Education trainings: LSE training provide the adolescents the power to think, reflect, and comprehend. It also lays emphasis on receiving help and then giving it back. LSE at DD has a three point basis: -Every person, regardless of gender, race, or caste, has the right to education. -The objective of this education is to enhance a person’s ability to deal with life's issues and problems. -Education is the key to successful LSE, education should help empower a person for their future. Thus these Life Skills Education (LSE) trainings expose adolescents to life’s issues and how to deal with the potential problems they will encounter later in life. It also addresses social expectations and gender inequalityand enables them to overcome the social shackles and taboos surrounding sexuality and a make positive contribution in the formation of a healthy and informed society. LSE training is imparted through 7 days residential camps for the disadvantaged adolescent boys including those that have either dropped out of or have never attended formal schools and is focused on the following areas of adolescent development namely Self- esteem & leadership, Relationships, Health, Reproductive Health, Sexuality, Problem Solving & Communication. These training programmes impact the process of personality development as well as the socialization of the adolescents.
- Annual trainings : Two annual trainings for DD personnel take place each year – one at Mt. Abu (the state education department makes available the DIET building) during the rainy season and the other at Pushkar/Mamoni, Kishanganj in early spring. These trainings enhance the understanding and skills of the participants and also build camaraderie among staff. Distinguished specialists in management, education, adolescent psychology, etc. are invited to take sessions of 2-3 days. The Pushkar training gives special attention to review of the work done and the understanding of processes and planning requirements of field work
- Intensive training of trainers: Doosra Dashak has been working for the education and holistic development of the adolescents for the last 11 years. Four months residential camps have been an innovative way of teaching the adolescents. In view of the importance of residential education programme, DD decided to create a cadre of full-time trainers, who were graduates with good academic records, and almost all had earlier experience as trainers. Every year intensive training is being provided to them along with shorter courses on specific subjects. Trainers are expected to undertake a review at the end of each day. This served as an opportunity to assess the trainers’ progress as well as problems faced in transacting aspects of the curriculum.
- Specialized trainings: These are organized for DD personnel depending on their needs. The subjects of these trainings include: • Curriculum and T/L materials; • Gender and sexuality; • Social Audit of MNREGA; • Public Hearing; • Right to Information(RTI) and Right to Education(RTE) • Continuing education; • Panchayati Raj; • Challenges before our democratic system; • Rural journalism; • Various laws relating to DD work.
