Pisangan, Ajmer (2005)

The Pisangan block was started in July of 2005, and is located in Ajmer district of Rajasthan. Out of the 128 blocks in Pisangan, the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities only inhabit 30. 16% of the total population of Pisangan. The ratio of females to males is 943:1000, as opposed to Rajasthan's state ratio of 922:1000. In the selected areas there is a total population of 98,609, out of which the persons in the 11-20 age group take up about 23%.

 

Gender and health related information
In regard to health indicators, Ajmer has no better status than other districts in Rajasthan. The infant mortality rate is 94, again more than the state figure of 87. Another notable factor is the mean age of female marriage. The mean age of marriage for girls is 16. 42% of females are married between the age of 15-17 and they start bearing children soon thereafter.

 

Educational Scenario
The overall literacy rate in Pisangan block is 53%, much lower than the district percentage of 65%. The female literacy rate paints an extremely dismal picture. As against the 72% literacy rate of males, the rate of literacy for females is just 32%. The participation rate in the area of elementary education (6-14 age group) is 87% for boys and 61% for girls. The number of students that drop out of school between class I and V is large. 55% of children still leave school before completion of five years of education. For girls the dropout rate is 57%.
